Header / Logo Designs

A nicely designed header is a important aspect of design as well, you may have a great theme, great colors and wonderful content but if your header does not reflect that then you have lost the battle. Getting a new header is the perfect solution for blogs on a tight budget, depending on the rest of the site it can really bring everything together.  Click here to read about the difference between a 'header' and a 'logo' design.

To many, even inexperienced designers,  a header and a logo are the same thing, but when it comes to getting one designed there is a difference in not only cost, but for future uses of the image.  A logo is a stand alone image in vector format that is used on header designs, print materials, and other marketing tools. A logo typically uses custom designed images, fonts, and is the backbone of a brand.  An example of a logo on this page is the Phoenix Players logo above, that logo would be used IN a header design for the site, as well as on cards, flyers, and advertising buttons.

A header is less custom, and sometimes involves using a logo, like the Reliable Healthcare header above, that is a header design using the actual logo (the part of the header on the white section). If the Reliable Healthcare site ever wanted a redesign the designer would be able to build a header using the logo that is designed separately.  Other headers, like the  Fun Puppy Training, Frugal Rehab, and Fishing headers use fancy fonts, stock images and vectors to create a header.

So, when ordering a logo or header from a designer be sure to specify if you need a actual logo as well as a header.   A logo should be able to be independent of the header, allowing you to redesign your site at a later date while keeping the same logo.  While a 'header' is designed for THAT design, and may or may not use a custom logo as the basis.  You should always get 'logo' files delivered separately from your header in vector format so it will be able to be re-sized for quality printing, many designers call their headers logos when in fact they are just headers and will not transfer well to print design or future design changes, resulting in a problem if you ever want a redesign without loosing the brand recognition you have built..
